Gertrude Pearl Deagon

Gertrude “Trudy” Deagon February 17, 1932-April 1, 2024 Our most loved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt, Trudy Deagon passed away peacefully on April 1, 2024. Gertrude Pearl Hawkins was born in Port Isabel, Texas on February 17, 1932 and was the eldest child of Douglas and Mary Hawkins. Trudy had 4 younger brothers who affectionately called her Tuh-da. Trudy and her brothers grew up playing on the sands of Port Isabel and South Padre Island. In 1943, Douglas Hawkins wanted a better life for his family and they moved to Burbank, California. Trudy was active in the CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) and that is where she met her husband Leonard Deagon. Trudy and Leonard married on February 14, 1953 and in 1955, they purchased their first (and only) home in Panorama City, California. Trudy was a loving wife and a devoted Mom. She was our anchor when we needed grounding and our sail when we needed to fly. Trudy was a woman of strength and many thought of her as a saint for all that she accomplished raising her 10 children, for the prayers and support she gave to all and a saint because everything she did, she did with love. Trudy had a big heart and welcomed everyone into her home with love and kindness. There was always room at the dinner table for others to join and Trudy always had a bowl of freshly baked cookies to share. She was a favorite Aunt amongst her nieces and nephews. Her grand-kids adored her, they knew there was always ice-cream at Grandma’s house and they loved the many afternoons spent with Grandma by the pool. In 2013 Trudy moved to Santa Clarita with her daughter and remained there until her passing. Trudy was a devout Catholic and with every child, the nurse would place the newborn in her arms, Trudy would always thank God for this beautiful precious gift and say a little prayer, “And now God, I give this gift back to you. I promise to love and to care for this child, in your name, all the days of my life”. Now, the time has come for us to give our Mom back to God. We thank you Lord for this beautiful precious gift that was bestowed upon us and ask by your grace, that Trudy will eternally be loved, and taken care of, just as Mom took care of her children and loved all of her grandchildren. Trudy is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Leonard Deagon, her brothers Richard Hawkins, Mel Hawkins, Dale Hawkins and her grandson James Deagon. She is survived by her 10 children Greg Deagon, Kevin (Debbie) Deagon, Marc Deagon, Brian Deagon, Anne (Mark) LeRoy, John (Laura) Deagon, Carolyn Gloudemans, Daniel Deagon, Mary (Scott) Schultz, and Lynn Deagon; 18 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; her brother James Hawkins; and many nieces and nephews.
